hand signals are recommended as standard operating procedure for the
European YakClub.
START UP
Vertical finger rotating.
ENGINE WIND UP
(At other times)
READY FOR – TAXI/TAKE OFF
Thumb up to the leader
Other pilots
pass down line.
ENGINE TEMPS TO LOW TO TAXI
Make T with hands.
WIND ENGINES UP 70%
Vertical finger rotating.
(for power
cx’s or T/O)
STARTING T/OFF ROLL
Move hand against forehead
3 times then
Nod head.
CHECK POWER SETTING
Leader form finger and
Thumb in
circle
Wing men
thumbs up if OK
Or hand
back/forward to
Indicate
less/more power
Required.
INCREASE/DECREASE POWER
Move fist forward/back
TURNING (Not always necessary)
Hand vertical. Palm towards

STRAIGHT AHEAD

CLIMB/DESCEND
Single finger point up/down.
LEVEL OFF

FUEL CHECK
Leader drinking action.
Wingmen thumbs
up/down.
Wing can
initiate by

action followed by
Thumbs down.
CHANGE ECHELON
Leader point to a/c to move
And to new
position.
LINE ASTERN
Fist on back of head.
REFORM ORIGINAL FORMATION
Wing rock or excessive rudder rock.
(after
Line Astern or tail chase)
LINE ABREAST
Palm facing front
Move fore and
aft.
CHANGE LEADER
Point at new leader
Raise one
finger.
ON THE BREAK
Leader waves goodbye.
GEAR DOWN
Hand “pulling chain” 3 times
then Nod head.
FLAP DOWN
Hand flap action 3 times,
then Nod head.
CUT ENGINE
Vertical finger rotating
Cut throat.
CHANGE RADIO FREQUENCY
GO TO APPROACH (in air)
I Finger raised.
GO TO
GROUND ( on ground)
GO TO GUARD ( 121.50)
2 Fingers raised.
GO TO COLLECTOR FREQ
Flat of hand vertical.

RADIO TRANSMITTER FAILURE
Point mike, thumb down.
